What is the main difference between Headway and Monarch?
Monarch’s official pricing page describes a subscription service. Verify current billing, supported institutions and household features for your region. A temporary Headway Web Session is not a substitute for a continuously shared household workspace.
| Question | Headway 1.0 | What to check in Monarch |
|---|---|---|
| How are purchases recorded? | Manual entry and supported capture tools | Bank connection coverage and reconciliation workflow |
| Where does the plan live? | On the iPhone; optional encrypted browser snapshot | Account, storage and sharing policy |
| What is the price? | Free, without an active paywall | Current regional plan and feature limits |
| What requires maintenance? | Balances, purchases and planned commitments | Connection health, categories and missing transactions |
How does Headway handle a spending decision?
Start with the balance you intend to spend from, then reserve bills due before your next income, a buffer and goal contributions. The flexible remainder becomes a daily guide. This is useful if your main question is what you can spend before payday.
What does the Headway experience look like?
Focus combines the spending estimate, goals and accounts. Activity holds recorded transactions, Plan holds commitments and Insights summarises your entries. The screenshot shows demonstration data in Headway only; it is not a picture of the competing app.

What does manual control require?
A manual plan needs a regular review. Record purchases, reconcile balances and check recurring items that have changed. Capture and Shortcuts can reduce typing, but Headway does not read complete Wallet history or general payment notifications. Missing records can make the estimate too optimistic.
How should you compare privacy?
Look beyond whether a product uses a login. Read where records are stored, which processors receive data and how sharing or deletion works. Headway’s optional voice, merchant artwork, backups and Web Session have separate details in the privacy policy. Review the other service’s current policy with the same checklist.
Which price should you use?
Headway 1.0 has no active paywall or in-app purchase. For Monarch, use the provider’s current regional pricing and confirm the included features, renewal price and cancellation terms. A promotional headline price should not be treated as a permanent rate.

How can you decide in practice?
Run a normal pay cycle through your preferred workflow. Add a purchase, a bill and a goal, then check whether the remaining money makes sense. Choose the system you can maintain consistently. If you need automatic imports or continuous shared editing, confirm those requirements before switching.
